MyBlogLog has now made my short list of favorite social networking applications. As a blogger, it is rare that I find a tool with so much potential to help bloggers hone their craft. For those who do not know what MyBlogLog is, it is a social bloggers metric site based around the idea of ‘communities’. For those who do know, and are just starting out, here are a few tips to let MyBlogLog help you.
-
Network - I’ve found that bloggers are a friendly bunch. When you are first starting out, there are few things more helpful than to talk to others about your craft. Find bloggers that you admirer and start a conversation, more often than not you’ll pick up a tidbit that may have taken you months to think of without prompting.
-
Visualize Your Readership - MyBlogLog gives you the ability not only to see your numerical stats, but also to visualize your reader base. Just knowing that there are people behind your stats can really help the SEO doldrums.
-
Read What They Read - See what your readers are reading, see what they’re writing and figure out who your blog really appeals to. It’s so easy to pretend that we understand our demographics, but a lot of time we are way off base.
-
Find News, Make Friends and Influence People - If you happen to write about current events, you may have noticed that sometimes you miss a major story by days. Look around communities of similar blogs and see what they’re writing about. If you find something interesting that you can expound upon, do so and throw a link back to the author Using stories is dirty pool without citations.
-
Explore The Network - There is no better way to become a better blogger than to read other good bloggers. Use the wisdom of the crowds to find bloggers with large communities and read their stuff, it might help you learn why people keep coming back.
In short, use your tools. MyBlogLog is such a friendly place to put up shop (especially the spectacular technical support) I simply can’t think of a reason not to give it a try.
[Disclosure - I peripherally know people involved with MyBlogLog. Images provided by all the great people who read this site. Thank you]
