Picasa Team

Google is on a roll this week, after Searchology day the next thing that they have announced is an improvement in the way that Picasa, their photo sharing solution works. Now, before we begin lets make sure that you are maximizing what Picasa can already do.

What You Can Do

Picasa already allows you to do wonders with the images that you have sitting around on your hard drive. You can edit, enhance and crop as well as create slide-shows and presentations from the raw data.

Sharing Your Photos with Picasa

There is already a laundry list of ways to use this application, you can:

  • Generate Picasa Web Albums
  • Email Photos
  • Print Photos
  • Blog Photos

Maybe those are not the most exciting features that you have ever heard, but I am just setting you up for the, “But Wait!” moment. Not only can you do all of these things, but once you’ve put together the next great fake celebrity photo album you can turn it into a:

Screensavers, Slideshows and Timelines, Wallpaper, Collages, Movies and finally export your finished product to CDs and DVDs. This is bound to make you a few million dollars if you know how to sell it correctly.

Needless to say, I am a fan of the software. The question is, how did Google enhance this already solid photo editing solution? They let you easily embed your presentations into your blog.

New Ways To Use Web 2.0 Enabled Picasa

Just off of the top of my head, here are a few new things that you can do with Picasa 2.0:

  • Create a blog featuring pictures of your cat in adorable poses.
  • Generate a list of DMCA take down notices that your next Web 2.0 project receives.
  • Craft an elegant new screen saver containing the entire cast of 90210 in their new careers.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg, everyone take notice — when you have the opportunity to let people embed content — do it.

If you enjoyed that why not find a job or read our guide to working in the 21st century. You can also join our Kiva team or hire me for your project.
