This is the most fun I have had on the Internet all day long. ToonDoo is a comic generator and gallery. Unlike many of the other options in this space, ToonDoo has a massive library of template characters, background and text boxes. By the time you are finished putting together your masterpiece, you might be wondering whether your real calling was in the graphic arts.

Are there problems? Yes, but they are nitpicks more than anything else.

ToonDoo

The first is that there was no intuitive way to flip the dialog boxes. The flip command didn’t seem to work on text boxes. As a result, all of my characters have to speak from the left.

The second problem is scrolling. I could have screen captured the comic and embedded the image, but I really shouldn’t have to do that just to resize it for the blog. It would be nice if they had better resizing options and a preview function.

Once you get past these little snags this is a fun and highly addictive little site. If you get a little bit of a creativity block, you can take a look at the “Toonbooks”. These are full web comics, complete with pages that flip, that have been created by the users.

Whether you are an creative looking to mock up an idea, artistically challenged or just bored at work, ToonDoo is worth several looks. Once you do, be sure to pass a few of your creations my way.
