Lets face it, if you are as busy as I am creating a sweeping internet empire then you probably have more information to organize than space inside your increasingly cluttered brain. While there are several software applications and more than a few hacks out there to help clean up the detritus, for my money (which is free), you can’t do much better than 37Signal’s Backpack.

Backpack is the utility knife of organizational tools. It allows you to make pages and add pictures, files, calendars, To-Do lists and pretty much anything else that you can possible think of to them. At first, it takes some getting used to, (you’re provided with a clean slate and told to organize your day around it) but once you start making pages you’ll find yourself hooked.

I have a page for all the projects I am working on, and To-Do lists attached to each. It is a really nice way for me to check up on myself and figure out what I’ve done and what still needs to be finished. Most importantly for the frugal, is that most of the functionality is free.

If you find yourself moving from one productivity application to the next, searching for the perfect fit, I suggest you give Backpack a look.

If you enjoyed that why not find a job or read our guide to working in the 21st century. You can also join our Kiva team or hire me for your project.
