Under: How To Hack Your Life

Lets face it, if you had the chance, a lot of you would hook yourselves directly into the internet. Even if you wouldn’t (doubtful) there are still times when you wish you had access to information that is sitting on your computer while you are on the road. Here are some really easy ways to transform yourself from an average user to an interweb demi-god.
Step One — Your Email
Gmail. It may not be as full featured as some of the other options, but you get lots of storage, good spam filtering and threaded conversations. An easy choice.
Step Two — Your Schedule
Two of my favorite apps for keeping track of my schedule are Google’s Calendar and Upcoming.org. Google Calendar is an excellent addition to Gmail and can be added to your Google homepage, but it is not quite as fun to use as Upcoming. Check them out and choose the one that suits your fancy.
Step Three — Your News
I am addicted to RSS feeds, so the idea that I can only access them when I’m next to my computer just did not sit well with me. That’s why I started using Newshutch. It seems like everyone has a feed reader these days, but Newshutch really makes me feel like I’m reading a newspaper or magazine. It also has a lot of great AJAX goodies.
Step Four — Your Documents
Ever wish you had remembered to bring along that word document? No fear, the internet offers a few great tools that allow you to store documents online and even colloborate on projects with others. The one I am most excited about is Writely, which lets you to upload from Word, save to the desktop and even blog your text. The only problem is that Writely is still closed for registration until the transfer to Google is complete. However, the good people at 37Signals offer another absolutely free option called Writeboard. I highly recommend giving it a look, 37 signals offers some amazing services.
This has run a bit long. Next time, I’ll take a look at social networking. Who needs privacy when you can be a Web 2.0 super-star?
