Working at home has never been so easy. The web today provides all the tools needed to transform your average home office into the warm, creamy center of your professional world. The tools are out there, the real problem is finding them. Here are a few steps you can take to put you on the right track.

Step One — Go Mobile

Do you need access to your files on the road? Me to. There are plenty of tools that provide this functionality, but the one that has my fancy at the moment is LogMeIn. You can open your files, check your mail and run programs from anywhere you have access to a web browser. Did I mention it’s free?

Step Two — Fax and Voice Mail

K7 offers a free voice mail and fax system. If you don’t have a landline, or just need a place to collect calls and recieve faxes, this is a perfect fit. Incoming faxes are sent to your email as .TIFs. It’s extremely useful if you are constantly on the go.

Step Three — Get Your Documents Anywhere

I recently talked about Writely, and how it still might not be ready for primetime. Thinkfree is more of the same. I haven’t had too much time to play with it, but it is still BETA. However, you get 1GB of storage and compatibility with Office. That’s nothing to laugh at.

Where we will talk about big files, big backups and bi…business cards.
