Science says that the dinosaurs died off because of the Ice Age and that the ones that survived adapted to the climate by evolution. If we look at technology today, I predict that it will die in a massive meltdown, and that only the quickest to adapt will survive. Here are my predictions:
Prediction Number One
Technology that uses the least energy, in all senses of the word. Less manpower to create and keep afloat, less energy to power, and less time to use.
The services that you will want to use, will combine all your daily activities into one nice package. No more tabs on your FireFox, you will just have one. You will be able to carry it everywhere with you, and be able to access it anywhere. It will run on solar power or motion. You will communicate with your hands and carry no hardware. Small chips will be implanted into your finger tips, you will be able to type messages in the air, point to the place you want to eat and have a table ready for you by the time you cross the street.
Prediction Number Two:
Clothing. We have been loosing items of clothing one piece at a time over the last 40 years. From a three piece suit to two, from pants to shorts. And with the advent of virtual offices, we have little need to dress for anyone but ourselves. Clothing will become buttonless and collarless, it will be soft and wrinkle free. To express ourselves we will wear individually designed t-shirts with our personal opinion of the world written across and of course with our contact info.
Prediction Number Three:
The Downfall of the Blog. Blogs will evolve into a carousel of copy and paste postings that will become the chatter of a select few. We will rebel from the constant sturm und drang and delete all from our RSS. But what will replace the Blog? Micro-blogs of friends, our world will focus on what is closest to us. We will no longer want to be “on top of the latest”, when we realize that we never truly be at the forefront, because life happens at such a speed that we need to slow ours down. Life is not well spent reading about others, it is spent living our own.
In conclusion, we are entering an age of overnight changes, and the changes will take place faster than it ever has in history. We cannot be held prisoner by our technology, we must be able to move quickly with the least amount of hardware. This applies to just everyday life, but also to a time where we are going to need speed in situations that call for it. If the Dinosaurs had GPS, they would’ve been able to head south to Florida and we would be carrying Tyrannosaurus Rex Louis Vuitton handbags. So keep your head up and watch the skies, it will be your first clue to the next wave.
