Like Edgar Allen Poe, there are some of us who would love to reach the living from the grave. In the days before the “internets”, you wrecked havoc through your Last Will and Testament or by leaving stuff in drawers, hidden and forgotten but sure to scar your loved ones for life when they rummage for gold coins.
Now, in this new age, I say we can send messages from the other side. There isn’t a service yet that does this, but as sure as my name is Ophelia, I bet there will be one by the next TED conference.
How will this service work? You can set up missives to your dearest now by posting to a private site that releases them according to your instructions. You can select “All” from your contact list and send one generic message, such as “I am dead” to more personalized messages to select folk. “I always hated your driving skills” will be a popular message, and “You never paid your part of the lunch check” will be a surefire winner to your office mates.
Don’t forget you can also record video, what could be more loving than an embedded video in an email that your wife opens up in the early morning, of you saying “Hey honey I love you and I am waiting for you on the other side”. Or to people you never really liked “Hey, it’s dark here and I saw your name on the Roast and Toast List”.
So, who’s with me on creating this? Who wouldn’t want to live forever in cyberspace? Well, you say to me “Ophelia, we already are with our blogs, tweets, videos etc., why do we need this?”, I say to you that even from the grave we will want to to be Digged.
