This is an open call for help. Digg this, reddit it, delicious it and submit it until your faces are blue. The more traction we can get, the better the chances that it will be successful. I can’t force you to do anything, but I can make the suggestion that if you always wanted a forum to speak to your favorite Web 2.0 pioneers, this might be a good opportunity.

It is the time of the year that the blooms reach their full beauty, the sunshine seems just a bit brighter, and I turn my mind towards community building. Web 2.0 is about people, it’s about community and its about those people who have the power to move the community into new and interesting directions. As such, starting for the rest of this week and going into next weekend I will be having How To Split An Atom Web 2.0 Tastemaker series.

What is a Tastemaker

A Tastemaker is a pioneer of the Web 2.0 culture who has gone above and beyond, not necessarily in traffic or incredible programming skills but in his or her ability to form communities and build them into something disruptive.

A Tastemaker is a web developer who cobbles together the next big social network in his spare time, a blogger who grows his blog by leaps and bounds in what seems like no time, a videographer who creates the “Lazy Sunday”.

A Tastemaker is also a person who uses their MySpace page to start a successful business, or who turns a development blog into a popular content portal. A Tastemaker is someone who takes an established technology and repositions it, breaking into a market that may have been closed to those who simply rehash old memes.

What I Need From You

This year’s Web 2.0 Tastemakers are going to take two forms. First, after some deliberation, I am going to select 3 mainstream movers and shakers who have disrupted the industries in which they operate. I will profile them here and hopefully they will grace these pages with some feedback. What I hope to gain from this is to have some of the smartest, most able players in the Web 2.0 landscape to take a bit of time out of their days to sit down and chat with the rest of us.

On your end, what I need are nominations for three lesser known members of the community. Whether it is a blog you simply can’t get enough of, or a web application that has a grip on your attention, submit their information using our handy contact form. I will select among the entrants, and over the next few weeks I’ll present interviews from these entrepreneurs.

Concluding Thoughts

The only way this will work is if you get involved. Use the social networks, use Digg, repost this invitation on your blogs or just contact me if you can think of any other way to help. If I get enough interest for this round of Web 2.0 Tastemakers, I can promise you the next one will be even more exciting.
