Tonight I am ending a tradition. Maybe not ending it but changing it slightly, and I thought I would explain to all of you why I am doing it.
For long time readers of How To Split An Atom, you’ll know that I start every post with “How To”. Initially, I did this because the theme of this blog was going to be How Tos. While I still write quite a few of these kinds of posts, this blog has expanded into a more comprehensive guide to Web X.0 and its surrounding culture.
As a result, I think it is time for me to evolve.
Trying to keep myself locked in the old format has forced me to be really “creative” about some of my titles. The problem is, it also tends to confuse new readers. Thus, in the name of usability, I am breaking the shackles of tradition and moving forward with free-form titles.
I can’t help but feel a sense of loss, but I know that in the long run a breath of fresh air is needed. Of course, I am keeping the scheme for posts that are legitimately “How Tos,” but for more general content I am moving on to greener pastures.
Now that we have that out of the way, here are a few of the weirdest fillers that I came up with in order to secure the old format:
